by Adam Gill

To configure your Symbian based Smartphone from Nokia, you need to install and configure the VPN client 4.3 on your device. However, you need to follow few simple steps to prepare your Symbian device for using the L2TP VPN connection. A step by step guide is given below to help you go through the process with ease.

  • Open the Nokia store and load the Nokia Mobile VPN application from it.
  • From here, you need to download the NCT (Nokia Configuration Tool) and then install it on your PC.
  • After installing the NCT on your PC, you need to get the configuration template. You can find the Nokia Mobile VPN configuration template easily over the web and download it.
  • After downloading the template, run the NCT tool by double clicking on its icon. From the menu bar at the top, select the ‘tools’ option and then click on the ‘VPN Configuration’ option from the drop down menu.
  • You will get the ‘VPN Configuration’ window, where you need to upload the configuration template. Click on the ‘load’ icon at the bottom and select the template to upload.
  • Now change the value in the field labeled ‘Policy name’ to a desired name for your VPN connection, so that you can easily recognize the connection later on.
  • In the next field labeled ‘VPN Gateway address’, enter the value of the VPN server that you want to connect to. You will get this value from the welcome mail from your VPN provider or by logging in customer area.
  • Select the ‘preshared key’ tab and enter the value of the preshared key that you get from your VPN provider in the field labeled as ‘key’.
  • Now, the configuration of the VPN file is complete, which you can transfer to your Symbian device to proceed further with the configuration.
  • Open the file manager and browse through it to the directory, where the config file is placed. Before installing the configuration of your phone, you need to have the mVPN client installed on it.
  • Initiate the installation of the configuration file and select ‘yes’ for all the questions to proceed with the configuration.
  • After having the file installed on your phone, you need to test it for a successful run.
  • Open the web browser app on your phone and select the name of the VPN connection to establish a connection with the desired VPN server.
  • You will be prompted to enter the log in credentials for the connection, where you must enter the username and password to successfully connect to the server.
  • You will get access to the internet service, if the configuration is done correctly.
  • With this step, you are done with the configuration of your Symbian device from Nokia to be used with an L2TP VPN connection.
